First conducted in 1950, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is often said to be the world’s premier celebration of the automobile. Only the most beautiful and rare automobiles are invited to appear on the famed eighteenth fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links each year, and connoisseurs of art and technology congregate to see them.

I have often marveled at the splendor and stunning event that is Pebble Beach. The amazing cars that exhibit there are without doubt the finest in the world. It was after winning car of the show at last years International Classic Car Show at the NEC in November, that I realized a possibility of entering this world famous Concours event. I have completed an application for this years show, this has been received by the Pebble Beach organizers last November. I will not know of my acceptance until the end of February, or the beginning of March.

If I get an acceptance to Pebble Beach, it is my intention to raise money by way of donations for two charities. The first charity is for Cancer Research in memory of Jeff and Penny Uren who as I already mentioned both died of cancer. The second is for one of the Pebble Beach charities, that being the 'Phil Hill Scholarship'. Phil won the 1961 Formula One World Drivers Championship, the only American to do so. He was a past exhibitor and tenured judge at Pebble Beach. It was at last years show that Phil was taken ill and sadly died a few days later. I had the pleasure of meeting Phil at the 1999 Goodwood Revival and he was a good friend with Jeff, so I think it’s only fitting to support his charity.

Details of how to make a donation will follow once I get acceptance.

I really hope I can call on the support from as many Cortina owners and indeed classic car owners alike to help me raise as much money as I can for these charities.
